Budget Session January-May I Autumn or Monsoon Session . July-September Winter Session November-December

What is Joint Sitting?

Joint sitting is extraordinary machinery provided by the Constitution to resolve a deadlock between the two Houses over the passage of a Bill. . Such sitting is called by the President and presided over by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha or in his absence the Deputy Speaker or in his absence, the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Parliamentary Proceedings

Quorum It is the minimum number of members tequired to be present in the House before it can transact any business. It is one-tenth of the total number of members in each House including the presiding officer.Question Hour The first hour of a sitting of the Lok Sabha is devoted to questions and that hour is called the Question Hour. The questions are of three kinds, namely, starred. un-starred, and short notice Zero Hour The period follows the , quesrion hour and 1t starts at the noon and 1ts duration is one hour (from 12 noon to 1PM). This time is ailorted everyday for miscellaneous business.Cut Motion The motion that seeks reduction in the amount of a demand presented by the government is knownas the cut Motion. There are three

types of cut motions namely (1) Token ( at (2) Policy Cut (5) Economy Cut Motion.

I No-confidence Motion It is a motion introduced by the opposition claiming that the House ha lost its confidence m the government. If it is passed then government must resign from the 0mm.

I Censure Motion It is a motion moved by the opposition against a specific policy of the government or against an individual minister If n 5 passed. the government or the minister stands

censured.

I Adjournment Motion It ls Introduced in the Parliament to draw attention o! the House to a detonate matter of urgent public Importance and needs the support of least 50 members to be admitted. It can only be moved to m lower House of the parliament.

I Ordinary Bill An Ordinary Bill can be Introduced in any of Houses of Payment. And it can be introduced b7 either a ministet or any member of the Padiament.

I Money Bill undet Article 1 l0 are hills. which exclusively contain provmons for the imposition and ahohtion ofmcs. for the appropriation of money: out of the Consohdated Fund. etc are cemhed as Money Bills.

Annual Financial Statement

I The Annual Financial Statement (Anide-l l2). laid before both the Houses of Parliament constitutes the Budget of the Union government. The General Budget is presented in Lok Sabha by the M mister of hnance.
